Why photography? Why Now?
For many years, I've been ... disappointed ... in most photos I take. While I get some basics right - all the subjects are visible, not too blurry, some rule-of-thirds composition, etc. - the photos themselves rarely capture the emotion I'm feeling nor do they highlight aspects I found interesting when I took the photo.
In search of a hobby, this looks like an area of my life I can improve. I took inspiration from the sky over West and Central Texas at sunset - the entire color spectrum is often visible, including colors like green in the middle of the spectrum as the sky transitions from red at the horizon to blue at the zenith. I've never been able to capture that color, even though it's clearly visible to the naked eye.
The Goal
Create and share images that capture the scale and emotions experienced when the photo was taken, highlighting aspects that captured my attention at the time the photo was taken.
Operating Principles
With the goal in mind, the bias is towards publishing images - the images need to be processed while the experience is fresh, and shared in a timely manner. This might mean publishing less-than-stellar images in this journey, and that's ok.
Another need is to capture what I learn and potentially share it - that's where this blog comes in. In the past, I try something out (nature photography, night sky photos, comets, Aurora Borealis, etc) and never track what I've learnt - mostly due to the disappointment after going home and seeing the images. And then the next time, I start from scratch.. This blog aims to change that approach to a more learning-oriented one. I intend to write a debrief blog post after every shooting+editing session, with photos to go with it.
